NYY Cable Description
NYY cables feature PVC (polyvinyl chloride)-insulated copper conductors and a tough, UV-resistant outer sheath made of PVC. They are suitable for most applications where mechanical stress is not expected, such as indoor or outdoor use, direct burial, concrete, or underwater environments, without concern for mechanical damage.
When NYY cables are required to comply with the underground burial requirements of the British Wiring Regulation (BS7671), they must be installed in conduit or ducting to prevent mechanical damage. They are not suitable for installation in concrete subject to shaking, vibration, or compression. The NYY-O cable differs from the NYY-J in that it lacks a green/yellow ground wire.
