BS5308 / PAS5308 Part 1 Type 1 Cable Description

The cables are used for communication, data, and voice signal transmission, and connection of electrical equipment and instruments. Typically insulated with Polyethylene (PE), they are available with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) or Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) jackets.

Screened designs are used to enhance signal integrity and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Aluminium/Polyester tape (Al/PET) may be applied to the outside of the pair/triple as an overall screen (CAM), or as both a single pair screen and an overall screen (abbreviated as IAM/CAM, ICAM, or ICAT).

Although commonly referred to as BS 5308 cables, these cable types are now often manufactured to the alternative standard PAS 5308.
