BS5308 / PAS5308 Part 2 Type 1 & 2 Cable Description

Both cables are used for communication and instrumentation signal transmission in industrial and commercial environments. Type 1 cables are designed for fixed applications and are usually used indoors. Type 2 cables use steel wire armor (SWA) and are commonly used in the petrochemical and chemical industries.

As with instrumentation cables, all core configurations and cable sizes are shielded and shielded with aluminum polyester tape (Al/PET) and either core shield or individual core shield (CAM or ICAM / IAM / PiMF). Double shield tape and metal foil on the wire pairs provide additional electromagnetic protection.

Although the original BS 5308 standard has been superseded by PAS 5308, it is still widely referenced.
