Concentric and Split Concentric Cable Description
The choice between concentric and split-concentric cables depends on the type of power supply: concentric cables are used for TN-C-S power supplies, while split-concentric cables are used for TN-S power supplies. Both types have a central insulated phase conductor with a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or LSZH (low-smoke zero-halogen) outer sheath.
Concentric-concentric (CNE) cables have a central phase conductor insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and concentric layers of bare copper wire as neutral and ground conductors. They are primarily used for a single-phase power supply, including connection to the household power supply.
Split concentric cable (SNE) has a separate concentric layer. It contains an insulated neutral conductor and a bare ground conductor, separated by material such as PVC rope and bound with transparent polyester tape. It is used when the power supply requires separate protective earth and neutral conductors, such as in older installations or for sub-mains distribution.
